Enjoy a job in disability with a difference

Love helping and supporting people? So do we, including helping and supporting our staff. As well as providing quality care and assistance, we offer a fun, supportive and flexible work culture. Our staff are treated well, listened to and know they can come to us with any issue.

If you’re just after a paycheck, HEDSS isn’t for you – though we do pay our employees above the grade. We want people who are passionate and enthusiastic when they’re around participants and are committed to helping them be independent. Does that sound like you?

Happy staff

“Amie and Gavin are highly-educated, qualified and experienced in the field. This is reflected in their personable approach, which ensures each client receives nothing but quality care and is best supported to achieve their individual goals. They also build strong rapport with each client and have fun and enjoy themselves along the way.”

On-boarding and training

In our industry, sound and ongoing training are important. All new HEDSS staff are given a full induction, including:

  • First aid, fire safety and emergency procedures training
  • Hazard-specific training (for example, manual handling, hazardous substances)
  • On-the-job training in safe work procedures
  • Job-specific training (for example, if a license or permit is required)
  • NDS Disability Induction
  • Understanding Abuse – Zero Tolerance
  • Working with People with Disability
  • Professional Boundaries
  • Human Rights and You – Zero Tolerance
  • Manual Handling for DSWs
  • Risk Management
  • Hand Hygiene
  • Incident Reporting

We also provide client-specific training, such as Mealtime Management Plans, Medication Protocol and Behaviour Support.

Please note that you’re required to have completed broader training, such as NDIS worker orientation and first aid before starting with us – this is not something we provide.

Formal training for Certificates 3 and 4 is available at various times.

“We try to get together for a night out once a month. We also organise staff social activities a couple of times a year, where both community access and group home staff get together.”
